Director's BIO

My name is Liran Kapel, I was born on February 2, 1984 in Haifa, Israel. I grew up in California, and came back to Israel when I was a teenager. I always loved art and film making, so when I started thinking about academic studies, animation was a natural choice for me. In 2012, I completed a BA in film and animation, and specialized techniques stop motion and 3D animation. I chose to master in stop motion, mainly because this technique involves art and creativity as well as live film making. The Idea to create a documentary about the Holocaust was born when I found the personal diary of my grandmother, the late Nomi Kapel. Since childhood, my grandmother used to tell me her story of surviving the Holocaust. but when I read the detailed diary, after her sudden death, I decided that I had to turn her words into an animated film.
“Nyosha” was screened at over 50 film festival, and won 11 awards.
My Second film, The Rope, is a Norwegian production, and a short animation made entirely out of salt. It participated in dozens of film festivals and won 2 awards.

Nowadays, I run my own business, Studio Kapel. In the studio we create promotional animation videos and ad to leading brands around the world.
Chani Goodman Winkler, 29
Artist and Animator
Chani Goodman Winkler, Born and raised in Jerusalem, currently reside in Pardes Hanna. My passion for creating with diverse materials emerged at a young age, making it clear that I would pursue a career in art. I chose to study animation because it beautifully combines the artistic world I grew up in with the captivating realm of cinema, which was new and intriguing to me at the time.
I hold a BA in Screen Arts from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, specializing in stop-motion animation. This technique allows me to breathe life into any material, which I find truly amazing. My creative process draws from various fields, including animation, painting, sculpture, and paper cutouts. I believe that animation is a powerful tool for both children and adults, and I strive to foster a dialogue with the younger generation through my work.
Currently, I collaborate with private clients as an animator, producer, and illustrator. My final film, "Elephants in Space," was released in 2020 and has traveled to around 15 film festivals worldwide.
